Here’s a little bit of Seahawks’ history
The Seattle Seahawks were established on June 4, 1974 and are owned by Paul Allen. The Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976. The Seahawks have played their home games at Century field since 2002 and they have previously played their home games in the Husky Stadium (1994 and from 2000 - 2001) and in the Kingdome (from 1976 to 1999).
Being the only franchise in the NFL based in the Pacific Northwest region of North America, the Seahawks have gained support from a wide geographical area, including some parts of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. The Seahawks have also gained support from Canadian fans in Alberta and British Columbia.
The Seahawks are the only team to have played in the AFC Championship Game and in the NFC Championship Game. They have won three conference championship and ten division titles. The Seahawks have appeared in three Super Bowls. Their first appearance was in Super Bowl XL against the Pittsburgh Steelers and unfortunately, they were defeated with a score of 21-10. Their second appearance was in Super Bowl XLVII against the Denver Broncos, they have defeated the Broncos with a score of 43-8. Their third appearance was in Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots, they were defeated with a score of 28-24. The Seahawks are the only and the first post-merger expansion team in the history of NFL to play in consecutive Super Bowls.
Seahawks fans are a big part of the team’s success, so as a tribute to the best fans in the NFL, Seahawks President Mike McCormack retired the #12 jersey on December 15, 1984. This is the reason why fans of the Seahawks have been referred to as the 12th Fan, 12s, or the 12th Man.
The 12s had previously held the Guinness World Record title for the loudest roar at a sports stadium. On December 2, 2013, during a game against the New Orleans Saints, the 12s produced a thunderous roar of 137.6 decibels at the CenturyLink Stadium in Seattle, Washington. This is the second world record set by the 12s, the first being on September 15, 2013, during a game against the San Francisco 49ers, where they produced a loud roar of 136.6 decibels.
The Kansas City Chiefs currently hold the record for the loudest roar. When the 12s steal the record yet again from the Chiefs, make sure you’re there sporting your Seattle Seahawks Paracord Bracelet.
The Seahawks got the idea of their logo from a picture of a transformation mask of Kwakwaka’wakw tribe from the book “Art of the Northwest Coast Indians.” The Seahawks create their own version of the mask however, Marvin Oliver, a local artist creates his own version of the logo which he thinks better represent the design principles of the Northwest Coast and he gave his design to the Seattle Seahawks.
The original design was modernized in 2002 as the Seahawks wants to give the logo a fiercer look. They also changed the team’s colors from royal blue and green to navy blue, light blue, and green.
The franchise has yet again made a slight change in the appearance of the logo ten years later by changing light blue to gray.
