    About the Buffalo Bills

    The Buffalo Bills were established on October 1959. They compete in the NLF as a member club of the league’s AFC East Division. The Bills are based in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area and they play their home games at the New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York.

    The Bills’ first season was in 1960, and they played in the American Football League. The Bills began play in the NFL in 1970, when the AFL and NFL merged. Ralph Wilson was the owner of the Bills since its founding until his death in 2014. After his death, the Wilson’s estate reached an agreement to sell the franchise to Terry and Kim Pegula. This agreement was approved by the other NFL team owners.

    Facts about the Buffalo Bills

    • They are the only NFL team that plays its home games in the State of New York. The New York Jets and the New York Giants play their home games at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
    • They are the only team to win four consecutive conference championships.
    • They were the first team in the NFL to appear in four consecutive Super Bowl games.
    • The Buffalo Bills’ original team colors were light blue, white, and silver.
    • In 1962, the Bills changed their team colors to red, white, and blue.
    • The Bills changed their helmet color from white to red in 1984.
    • The Bills retired the uniform numbers #12 (Jim Kelly) and #78 (Bruce Smith).
    • At the end of the 2016 season, the Bills have an all-time record of 414-475-8.
    • Their first regular-season game was a loss to the New York Titans with a score of 27-3.
    • Steve Christie was the all-time leading scorer for the Bills with a total of 1,011 points (1992-2000).
    • Jim Kelly has the most career passing yards with 35,467 yards.
    • Andre Reed has the most career receptions with 941 receptions.
    • Thurman Thomas has the most career rushing yards with 11,938 yards.
    • RB O.J. Simpson was the first Bills player to be elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985.

    Logo History

    1960 – 1961

    The Bills’ first logo featured a blue football with two football players and a herd of buffaloes. The wordmark “BUFFALO BILLS” was written on top in white.

    1962 – 1969

    The Bills changed their logo in 1962 and it featured a brown football, inside the football is a Bills player wearing their blue uniform and white helmet, a brown buffalo serves as the background for the Bills player.

    1970 – 1973

    The Bills new logo featured a red bison.

    1974 – Present

    The Bills changed their logo into a charging buffalo in blue with a red slanting stripe streaming from its horn. This logo was designed by Stevens Wright, an aerospace designer.

    Rivalries

    The Bills’ divisional rivalries are the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. They also have rivalries with the Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys.
