Famous People You Probably Didn’t Know Were United States Marines

With its formation more than 240 years ago, the United States of America Marine Corps boast of men that became famous and successful after their service was over. There were also former Marines that flew under the radar and most people had no idea that these famous and successful men had served in the U.S. Armed Forces as Marines.

Here are 6 of them.

1. Drew Carey

 

Drew Carey, “Come on Down”. Yep, Drew Carey, the host of the long time running game show “The Price Is Right” was a former Marine. In 1980, Drew enlisted in the Marine Corps and he served for 6 years. After serving, he went on to star in his own sitcom “The Drew Carey Show” from 1995-2004. He also hosted the show “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?”And then “The Price Is Right”.

2. Montel Williams

 

After graduating from high school, Montel Williams joined the Marines and went to Parris Island, South Carolina for the boot camp. Montel was also sent to the Naval Academy Preparatory School and went to the Naval Academy to be groomed as a leader. He then served in the Intelligence sphere aboard a submarine for several years.

In 1991, Montel Williams started the successful talk show “The Montel Williams Show”.

3. Rob Riggle

 

Rob Riggle served in Liberia, Afghanistan, and Kosovo. He is now a Lt. Col. in the Marine Corps Reserve and also a New York City public affairs officer. Today, Rob Riggle is an active comedian and also a correspondent for the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Rob Riggle is also a recipient of the Combat Action Ribbon.

4. Shaggy

 

Before he became a successful rapper,” Shaggy” or Orville Burrel in real life was a former Marine that served in “Operation Desert Storm” as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember.

Shaggy is best known for his 2000 hit single “It Wasn’t Me”.

5. Glen Bell

 

Glenn Bell, the founder of the Taco Bell franchise was a former Marine that fought in the Second World War. In 1962, Glen opened the very first Taco Bell. Then in 1978, he sold his 868 Taco Bell restaurant chains to Pepsi for $125 million in stocks.

6. James Carville

 

When James Carville graduated from Louisiana University, he joined the Marine Corps and served for two years. Later, he went on to become a political consultant. When Former U.S. President Bill Clinton ran for the U.S. Presidency, James Carville successfully led and managed his campaign.
