Why I Joined the Military: I was at a crossroads in my life. I started my own business doing auto glass and it failed. I then started working dead end jobs and couldn’t make ends meet. I joined the Army as a medic to help others and have a stable career. My mother died of ovarian cancer when I was 16 and I wanted to prevent death of soldiers and take care of the sick.
Life Changing Event: The army has changed my life forever. I lived in Hawaii for 3.5 years and yes it was amazing. Unfortunately my Army career was not all amazing. I was deployed to Iraq and experienced loss and mental trauma. I have a diagnosis of PTSD and battle with depression, anxiety and alcoholism. Living with PTSD has made it hard to live a normal life and I struggle daily.
Why I Joined Handmade By Heroes: I am a disabled Veteran and found it hard to transition to a job outside of the military. I met a fellow Veteran in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and he was truly excited to tell me about his job at Handmade by Heroes. Handmade by Heroes has put me working with other Veterans with similar medical issues they struggle with. I am able to relate, talk to and feel comfortable around other veterans. I finally feel a sense of normalcy in my life. The whole crew at Handmade by Heroes all the way up to the owners have been supportive of my road to recovery from alcoholism and treatment for my PTSD. These people are family to me.
Message to Customers: We make the highest quality products made from paracord. Making these products for you is my treatment. I get to be around my fellow veterans and stay out of my head by working with my hands. I take pride in every product I make and thank you for your support of the Armed Forces and keeping me employed with the family I call Handmade by Heroes.
