The Bills’ first season was in 1960, and they played in the American Football League. The Bills began play in the NFL in 1970, when the AFL and NFL merged. Ralph Wilson was the owner of the Bills since its founding until his death in 2014. After his death, the Wilson’s estate reached an agreement to sell the franchise to Terry and Kim Pegula. This agreement was approved by the other NFL team owners.
