    About the San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers were established on June 4, 1944 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference. The team played their first season in the AAFC in 1946. In 1949, the team joined the NFL following the collapse of the AAFC.

The 49ers compete in the NFL as a member club of the league’s NFC West Division, the team plays their home games at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. During the 1950s, some of the great individual stars in the NFL play for the 49ers including quarterbacks Frankie Albert and Y.A. Tittle, running backs Joe Perry, John Henry Johnson, and Hugh McElhenny, defensive tackle Leo Nomellini, and tackle Bob St. Clair. Although the team is packed with great players, the closest they came into a championship in their first two decades in the league was when they tied Detroit Lions for the NFL Western Division crown in 1957 and unfortunately they lost in a playoff.

The 49ers won three straight NFC Western Division titles in 1970, 1971, and 1972. However in the NFC championship games in 1970 and 1971, they were eliminated by the Cowboys, and in the first playoff round in 1972 they were again eliminated by the Cowboys. In 1977, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. became the new owner of the 49ers and in 1979 he selected Bill Walsh, who was known as an offensive specialist, as the new head coach for the team. In just three seasons, with the help of Walsh, the San Francisco won their very first league championship, they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XVI with a score of 26-21.

The 49ers also won the NFC West in 1983 and 1984, and they got their second league championship when they defeated the Miami Dolphins with a score of 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX, the team got their third league championship in Super Bowl XXIII when they defeated Cincinnati Bengals with a score of 20-16.

    Logo History

    1946 – 1967

The original logo for the 49ers was a gold miner with mustache and is wearing a red shirt and plaid pants. The miner is holding pistols in each hand, he appears to be firing the pistols and jumping in midair with his hat falling off.

    1968 – 1995

San Francisco has introduced their iconic red oval logo and black outline with the “SF” on its center.

    1996 – 2008

In 1996, a gold outline was added between the black outline and the red oval.

    2009 – Present

The oval was stretched a bit and the color of the oval was changed into a brighter shade of red.

The next time you dress up during a 49ers game, make sure to sport this stylish San Francisco 49ers bracelet. Each bracelet is proudly handmade by US Veterans.
