Hometown: Colorado Springs, Colorado
Name / Alias: Lonnie P.
MOS: Transportation
Unit: NSA Da Nang
Rank: E-4
Deployment Zone: Vietnam
Deployment Years: 1966-1967
Branch of Service: Navy Seabees

Why I joined the Military: At that time it was the draft.

Life changing event: I was in the Navy Seabees stationed at Port Huenenne, California.

I went through Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training at Coronado island and Warner Springs, California. Afterwards, I went to the Marine Corps Camp Pendleton, CA. for weapons and hand to hand combat training. From there, I was off to Da Nang Vietnam where I was stationed at Camp Tenshaw and attached to Naval Support activity (N.S.A.). It wasn’t that bad until we were hit that first time with rockets and mortars. They were coming in hot and heavy, cracking all around. I thought to myself, “fun and games are over. This crap is for real. I’ve got to find a hole.” That was the first of many and I will never forget.

Why I Joined Handmade By Heroes: I am retired now and needed something to do to keep busy. I heard about Handmade By Heroes, so I thought this would give me something to do and earn some extra money.
